He speaks!

I recorded this a few weeks ago, when Owen was in one of his chatty moods. Sorry it's a little dark...you'll get the message though.

Miles came out of retirement for this!

Poor Miles has had his world absolutely rocked by this little creature we brought into the house in July. Miles started losing his hearing last spring, a blessing in disguise if you ask me. He was able sleep through those 1 and 3 am crying sessions while the rest of us were awake!

That said, Miles seems to feel more purpose than he has in a long, long time. He loves his little guy.

...And Owen is absolutely infatuated with Miles too.

DA DA

In honor of Owen's first word, I thought I would post a few of my favorite pictures of him and his da da.

This is one of my all-time favorite pictures!

Davey had great intentions to go as the man with the yellow hat for Halloween. We never really got around to putting the costume together though.

In our backyard before sunset

Owen and Davey playing their favorite game - king of the da

...resting after playing

I loved this Christmas outfit. Davey and Owen humored me...

Ah, the memories

As we gave Owen a bath before bedtime last night, as he splashed with his feet or closed his eyes and relaxed while the warm water ran down his face (Davey still treats him like a daisy and waters him with a plastic watering can after we soap him up), I couldn't help but think back to some of our earliest and...er...most memorable times with Owen. I have to say that while he certainly was little and cute and all those good things, I am really, REALLY glad he's grown out of the hating baths thing.

(Check out Elaine, one of our awesome nurses at CPMC...and please ignore my hair and outfit!)

6 months in 6 pictures...is it possible?

And the countdown begins! This was just before we left for the hospital at 10pm on Sunday night - after Mary Bishop's magical thyme and peaches that induced water breakage. Poor Miles had no idea what was coming. (Note: following this picture, Mom went out into the street and yelled to my neighbors that my water just broke)

Well hello...
-Are you the one who's been kicking me for the past few months?
-That depends...are you the one who eats Indian and Thai food all the time?

What a big boy he was! And we had no idea he would double his weight in only 4 months!

The eyes tell it all. Davey couldn't resist poking and squeezing Owen.

Mom says, 'can you see the resemblance?'
This was taken the morning after Owen was born. We stayed in the hospital for 2 LONG days.

Dad and Owen begin their first nap-off (of many)
Ready......NAP!!!

Aunt Chrissy thinks, 'this will be me someday - soon.'
This was taken right after we brought Owen home from the hospital. Look at the baggy blue pj's. I don't think he could get one of his thunder thighs into them these days!

After Chrissy, Mom and Dad left, Grandma Sandy flew in for the second shift. She was here just as Owen began to wake up from his 'fourth trimester' slumber which meant lots of crying. Sandy logged hours and hours and hours in the glider, just rockin' away. (THANK YOU Uncle Edmond and Jan!!!)
OK...so 6 months in 6 pictures was not possible.
More to come...

2009 already??

I know I shared the sentiment of many when I looked at the calendar this morning and thought:

Wow, 2009 already?! Where did 2008 go?

No doubt, 2008 for us is buried under saltines and doctor appointments and ultrasounds and empire waist dresses, then baby clothes and more baby clothes and dirty diapers and toys and more gear than you can imagine. Perhaps we slept through 2008 (wishful)...or missed it in our sleep-deprived state. Nonetheless, I think Davey and I are in agreement that 2008 will go down as one of the best years of our lives. When all was said and done, 2008 gave us Owen.

It's hard to believe that nearly 6 months have come and gone since that little purple bundle entered the world. Wow, has he totally rocked my world in that short time. And wow, do I love him like I never imagined I would ever love anything. How true it is, what they tell you.

Being in Delaware for the holidays reminded me of all the special people in Owen's life who are very far away and missing his day to day growth and development (i.e. all those little things that Davey and I take for granted). So, in the spirit of resolutions and new years and new beginnings, I resolve to [try really, REALLY hard to] update this blog once a week for the rest of the year. If not once a week, then twice a month...I promise! I also resolve to make this less about me and more about Owen. Thus, as much as I might want to use this blog as a forum to whine about how tired I am, etc, etc, I promise to post pictures and give you Owen updates instead. (Besides, Davey would kill me if I used this as my own personal diary!)

That said, enjoy... And by the way, we miss you!
